A talk on the story of the Mayflower by historian Dr. Rita Cruise-O'Brien to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower's historic journey from Rotherhithe to the New World. This is the launch event of The Southwark Civic Society and supported by The Southwark Mayflower 400 Fund. Light refreshments will be provided. Jamestown Brides with Jennifer Potter
Jennifer Potter, author of The Jamestown Brides: The Untold Story of England’s ‘Maids for Virginia’ is this month's speak. She will guide the audience through the lives of the women who, in 1620, were willingly transported to the Virginia Colony and sold, as part of a scheme to stabilise the plantation settlements. It is a wonderful tale of events which occurred at the same time as the preparations for The Mayflower were in progress.
